Girl WIth a Curl

Look at this Missy.

My curly girl.

SO full of attitude, so full of sweetness.

She reminds me often of the old Mother Goose nursery rhyme that seems to have been written especially for Her.  Have you heard it?  It goes:

There was a little girl
And she had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead
And when she was good, she was very, very good
And when she was bad, she was horrid.

Our Little Miss is that Girl With A Curl.  She drives me crazy and She melts my heart.
Here are some Isms to show you what I mean.

 Horrid
On a road trip, Miss and I had to stop for a ladies room.  The gas station we found turned out to also be a bar.  (Because what is better than a place you can fill up your car, then fill up on booze and drive?!) It was small and crowded.  When we walked in, a toddler and a pregnant lady, everyone stopped and stared.  Miss uncharacteristically smiled, waved, and said, "Hi guys!"
The motley crew politely responded with partially-toothed grins and salutations.  Miss took that moment of full attention to announce: "EEEeeew! Somepin STINKY in here! This place not smelling nice.  Someone not cleaning the floor! And it's YUCKY!"

C: "You can't wear those shoes, love, because they are too small.  They don't fit you now."
Miss: "I am NOT YOUR FRIEND!"

C: "Sorry, Miss, swimming is cancelled because of the lightning.  It isn't safe to swim in lightning."
Miss: "WHAT!? I no can swim?  I have on my bathing suit! Fine.  I am NOT YOUR FRIEND!"

C: "No, we can't have popsicles for dinner.  We have this yummy food for dinner."
Miss: "Then...I'm...NOT YOUR FRIEND! I will eat NOTHING.  ALL. DAY."

C: "Will you please put that toy away so we can go to the park?"
Miss (sweetly): "I'm not your fri-end."

Miss goes under the table after lunch time.  She finds Her own mess.
Miss (gasping): "MOMMY!  It a mess unner here! You not cleaning up this floor.  You not do your good job.  Go time out now.  Then you can clean up your messy floor."

C: "Miss.  That is enough.  It's time to make your bed, right now."
Miss (sadly): "Ooohh....no. Oh, no-no-no.  Oh no.  I so saaad! Not going to make mine bed. Now, I have to go 'way, 'ever, and not have any Mommy.  Not have any more Mommies! and! (cue actual tears) I be so a-lone-ly!"

C: "Here we are!  Let's get out of the car and hurry in."
Miss: "No.  I am not getting out this car."
C: "Why not, Little Miss?"
Miss: "A'cause.  This is NOT a good parking spot."

Miss:  "Mommy.  Want a hug.  I hit your face!"
C: "Miss! That is NOT the way to get a hug from Mommy!"
Miss: "Oh! Sorry.  Please, can I have a nice hug?"
C: "Sure, sweetie.  That's much better."
(HUG)
Miss: "Thanks! Now, I HIT YOUR FACE!"

Very Very Good

Miss (Calling out from the bathroom): "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy come hee-ah!"
C: "Here I am! What is it, Missy?"
Miss: "Oh, Mommy.  Mommy, you clean this bathroom so nice! So nice and clean!  Thank you.  Thank you clean mine bathroom, all clean and shiny.  This makes me SO HAPPY!"

Miss( at dinner): "Mommy! Thank you for all this yummy dinner for me!"
C: "You're so welcome! I'm glad you like it."
Miss: "Oh, yes.  It's deelishis. I lllllOVE your dinn-ahs!"

Miss: "Mommy?  Can you please push me in, in my chair?"
C: "Sure, Missy! Here you go."
Miss: "Oh, t'ank you Mama! You are a good grown up."

Miss(bounding through the house): "Boing boing boing! YAY! Boing boing boing! Yaay!"

That why you give me dinner an' brefast, an' tuck me all in.  And give me kissies and huggies and snuggle me all up.  Thas why you clean up all the stuff and wash my bee-you-tee-ful dresses?  Why you read me a story from the lib-er-ar-ee? For you love me Mommy?"
C: "Yes, Missy. I take good care of you because I'm your mommy and I love you."
Miss: "Wow. You take good care me, Mommy.  You love me A LOT!

  1. I think her and Reese are soul sistas! Extremes...extremely awesome and extremely challenging. Miss will be able to hold her own when she is a grown up.

  2. I love being witness to the extremes of siblings. C1 & C2 (in my house) are best friends and worst enemies...and are so much their own little people with their own little personalities, I am constantly entertained. I guess Amber and I were not distinctive people until we were much older - this whole big sister-little sister dynamic is totally new to me. C2 has a head full of curls and fits the poem to the T! Is it little sister syndrome...or the curly hair???
