Church-Isms

Today in Church:

Little One: "Mom! Pssst! Mooom! Mommy. NO."
C: "Little One! Shh.  What is the matter?"
LO: "Mommy.  You're getting to trouble! You can't sleep in church mommy!"
C: "Ah.  Little One it's ok.  I'm not sleeping.  I'm praying".
LO (with a sarcasm far too cultivated for Her age): "Uh-huh.  Well.  Yours eyes was closed.  I sawed them."

And then there is Little Miss.  Little Miss tolerates Catholic Mass for one reason.
There is the part, after communion, where we are all asked to "offer each other a sign of Christ's peace".  Which basically means, say hi to the folks around you.  The custom is to shake hands and say "peace be with you".  Often abbreviated to "peace".
Little Miss LOVES this.  LOVES.  Because She is the flutteriest of social butterflies.  And at this part She gets to wave, coo, grin, chortle, and shake hands with as many people as She can bat Her eyelashes at in the allotted time.
But church is not a social hour, Peanuts, no!  And today Miss finally put it all together, and grasped the deeper meaning of this special moment in Mass.
As our fellow parishioners said to Her, "Peace", a light was ignited in Miss's batting-lashed eyes and She excitedly showed off Her understading with Her newly acquired sign language-
"Please!" She signed to everyone around Her.  "Please please!"
She might have wondered what they were all asking for.
