C: "Little One! What are you doing up on the counter?"
Little One: "Getting our vitamins. We finished breakfast."
C: "O...k. But you need Mommy's help to open the containers. So hang on minute, please."
Little One shrugs: "It's ok, Mom. I got it."
C: "They're child-proof, love. That means that-"
Little One expertly pops the lids off.
C: "Um. Who taught you how to do that?!"
Little One looks at me almost piteously and shakes Her head.
"Oh, Mom. You know, I can read now."
She smiles at my blank stare and pats my shoulder, as if consoling a small child.
" Look here- 'push down and turn right'. Want me ta show you how?"
I guess we can skip the sweet 16 party. Apparently, once one can read, they are no longer a 'child'.
