Little One Goes South- and sees the sea

tHere you go! Photographic evidence of fun times in South. North Carolina is a bit like 1930's film star. It smokes way too much, but it sure is beautiful. There is water just everywhere, and many of our adventures so far have been about going to the water and being the NC starlet's fans; standing around ogling, and asking it to pose with us for countless pictures.

:

See? Little One is having trouble posing because this little river-beach was teeming with ducks. Ducks are very perplexing. Why do they make that funny noise all the time? Where are they all going? Why do they not get close enough to chew on, which would surely solve all these riddles?

This is our first day at the ocean. Oceans smell funny. And they are very sunny. I suppose this is why Little One required two pairs of sunglasses, even inside the funky diner where people call Her "puddin'". The best thing about the ocean is the wind that comes up over the boardwalk. This wind is nice and cool, and funny smelling. Apparently the best thing to do with ocean wind is to dance around as much as possible, gasp dramatically, and then sing to it.

Singing to Ocean is even more fun when Daddy sings, too.

We went to a Memorial Day service on a big battleship in Wilmington. On the way in, Little One met this handsome fellow. "Hey there, Sailor", She said, "My what big studly muscles you have. As if they were carved from oak! Meet me on deck in about 20 years, k?"

Here we are at the service. Little One was a very good patriot. She was immersed in Her study of the flag for throughout the speeches and ceremonies, but made sure to sing Her little heart out during taps. I don't mean cry, I mean sing. It was really very sweet, and it's amazing how a baby can bring some joyfulness to a somber moment. She earned Herself a lot of fans on that ship!

There has also been much popping into little shops and historical sites, perusing antique shops and taking long walks and hikes through the scenery. And lots of hanging out with our new friends. We are having a grand time experiencing new people and places. The best part of course, is that good and bad we are very lucky right now to be doing it all together.
